Isaiah 58:8 (NKJV)
Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
Rewards of Fasting
The Bible states that Jesus did not pray in public, He wanted it to be a private place where He could have a one-on-one private talk with God. In private He could have an intimate conversation with God It was His one-on-one alone time with His Father. After those intimate alone times with God, God often poured out His reward openly on people so they could witness His blessings and rewards.
I’m sure you’ve heard the term “Victories are often won in private not public.” Whether you fast individually or corporately the main thing is that you sacrifice and have discipline. Jentezen Franklin states where there is little private discipline there is little reward.
You want your rewards to be personalized right? You don’t want to get an incentive from your employer that is more show for their corporate buddies than it is to you. Let’s say for example, that your boss wants to show his boss that he likes the same type of whiskey that his boss likes, he thinks it will give him brownie points. So, your boss openly gives you a large bottle of his boss’s favorite whiskey during a public display. Your boss really didn’t take into account your desires, your wants, or that you told him you have a family and you like to go to the movies with them. He didn’t care that you’ve told him several times over the years that you don’t drink. He was only concerned about looking good in the eyes of his boss.
God also wants your fasting to be personal and private. He doesn’t want your fasts to be used as a public display to impress other individuals in your attempt to show people you are fasting. That is not the point of fasting, you should be fasting to get closer to God and to spend some very intimate alone time with Him. You want to be rewarded personally so your fasting needs to be personal!
Matthew 6:2-4 (NKJV)
Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.
Job 23:12 (NKJV)
I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food.
Joel 2:15-16 (NKJV)
Blow the trumpet in Zion, Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; Gather the people, Sanctify the congregation, Assemble the elders, Gather the children and nursing babes; Let the bridegroom go out from his chamber,
And the bride from her dressing room.
God will not allow you to stay in poverty when you pray and fast in private. You may not be a millionaire or become super rich, but God will not leave you in a life of poverty. I’m not saying that you use God like a genie and when you want something you simply fast for an hour or a day and God will reward you because of your fast. I’m saying that if you really seek Him and His ways and fast regularly and fast to become closer to God or to gain a greater understanding of His Word, He will not leave you in poverty.
God will even send healing after a fast.
Isaiah 58:8 (NKJV)
Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
Fasting can bring clarity to your mind; it can remove bitterness from your heart and it can humble you. The bitterness that was in your heart that prevented you from truly forgiving someone may be your reward. God may have healed your spirit so that when you spoke the words “I forgive” your spirit will agree with your words. Fasting can also help with your internal organs by allowing a time of cleanse and rest for them. We use our organs 24/7 and they really benefit a regular fast.
God will also bless and reward your children or grandchildren. Many of you may have or know of a child who has been lead down the wrong road by the enemy’s lies and deception.
God wants to save your child or grandchild. God’s Word states it clearly! Get closer to God with prayer and fasting. Let God openly reward the loved ones in your life,
Joel 2:28
And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions.
Matthew 6:4 (NKJV)
so that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.
